The open source software GitLab was originally developed for the management of software projects based on the version management system git. It is now being used at more and more universities and research institutions and is experiencing a growing range of applications. In addition to the management of projects, the use of GitLab enables co-operative work on research data along the FAIR principles and thus opens up numerous application possibilities in research data management.
